Great Fishing 2009

2009 was an awesome year for fishing.  I've actually never fished so much in my life... but Ben could fish every day, thus I try to get him out there as much as I can.  On that note, Alli was always a trooper, and joined us for many of the trips, landing lots of fish herself.

This year Ben hit a major milestones.  But before he did, there were lots of tears as his "Life's Dream" eluded him time after time.  Many occasions we went fishing to catch the elusive salmon, and even with the awesome run, he had troubles catching one... which is always hard as he watched many others landing salmon around him.  Then one day with Grandpa Doug, the river was alive with pinks, and he through out his lure and legitimately caught his first salmon.  As you can see, Ben was psyched!

Two fish on!

Ben had a fishing outing that Grandma Sherry and Grandpa Mel planned, and Bob Hinckley, the experienced fisherman and Captain of the ship, led the excursion.  After we fished at a small lake near Bob's home, we met up for a picnic lunch at Lake Sammamish and continued to fish into the afternoon.  It was a great day!

Grandpa, Clint, the kids and I headed over to Rhonda and Paul's for the biggest trout they will ever catch!

The big daddy cooked up for dinner!

Ben and Cousin Curt fished hard, but despite their best efforts, were unable to land any fish on this outing.

This next method was a new way to catch salmon... have a storm blow them to shore.  Anyway, it was great to see so many fish!

One day at Eagle Shore, I was trying to get Ben out to catch some salmon but the wind was too powerful for the rowboat.  And it was frustrating looking at all those fish out there... look at them all jumping, and only about 75 yards off shore... just a little too far to cast into the wind.

And speaking of fish, look at all those lines in the water at the mouth of the Duwamish... I like to call it Snag Central!

To end this fun fishing post, let's go with the funniest cast of the season we caught on film... the one that got away!  In all fairness, Abbi is actually a better caster than this.  ;)
